President Joe Biden is facing backlash after making a gaffe during his Veterans Day speech.
The full quote reveals what Biden was trying to say during his speech. A video appears to show Biden saying that Black baseball player Satchel Paige is “the great negro of our time.”
“And I just want to tell you, I know you’re a little younger than I am, but I’ve taken on the attitude of the great Negro — at the time, a pitcher in the Negro Leagues — who went on to become a great pitcher in the pros — in Major League Baseball after Jackie Robinson,” Biden said, according to Forbes.
“His name was Satchel Paige,” says the narrator.

When Biden said that the hashtag “Racist Biden” was trending on Twitter, it got a lot of attention.
People started bringing up old comments or statements Biden had made in the past on social media.
“Biden has never been the best orator, and he’s been known to make mistakes,” according to Chris Haynes, an associate professor of political science and national security at the University of New Haven.
“It’s not that dissimilar to some of George W Bush’s public gaffes.”
What Biden said did not bother Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, according to Newsweek.
“From our perspective, it’s an honor that the president has such a fondness for Satchel,” Kendrick said.
“We take no offense at all to what the president said.
In fact, we congratulate the president on his continued support for this period of history.”
“To relate the stories of the Negro Leagues means a lot to us,” Kendrick continued.
