Ken Jennings, host of ‘Jeopardy!,’ apologizes to fans for the ‘Dad Joke.’

Ken Jennings, the former champion of Jeopardy! and now the temporary host, has apologized for making a father joke on a recent episode of the game show.

Andrew He, a former Jeopardy! champion, appeared on the show and won (dollar)800 in the category “National Geographic Ocean: A Global Odyssey.”

“A very brave cleaner shrimp gets a meal of parasites and dead skin from one of these scary predators’ mouth,” the question read. Contestant Jeff Meyers was the first to respond, asking, “What is an eel?”

Meyers guessed “Electric eel?” when pressed by the host for a more specific answer. When no one else did, Jennings told the crowd, “as Dean Martin might’ve said, ‘That’s Amore,'” referring to a moray eel.

On Twitter, the show teased the clip, saying, “Dad joke alert!”

Jennings reacted to the amusing incident online by jokingly apologizing to all of the fans.

“I will come to your homes individually to apologize for this,” she said, though it appears that an apology was not necessary in this case.

“Love, love, love Ken as host,” one person said.

Another hoped, “Please give him a permanent job.”

Someone else concurred, “That was a quick response and very, very funny.”

After the death of beloved host Alex Trebek from pancreatic cancer, Jennings first took over as a temporary host.

“I really miss Alex,” Jennings previously stated.

“I get the impression he’s in the building somewhere when I’m here.”

It’s difficult not to refer to him in the present tense.”

“It was a really tough time the first day I came in to guest host because Alex had passed away just a few weeks before,” Jennings admitted.

“When I arrived at the studio, one of the producers handed me a small box, in which Alex’s wife, Jean, had placed a pair of his cufflinks that he had worn on the show.”

What a lovely gesture from Jean,” he continued. “You know, at a time when her family was going through a lot of grief and facing a lot of challenges, she thought about Jeopardy! and she thought about me, a person she had never met.”

“And all I could think was, ‘What a lovely thing to do.’ She’s amazing.”
