Meghan Markle and Harry share new official photo – and it’s very different to royal snaps

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have posed for a new official photo to promote their latest non-royal job.

The couple will join a number of big names from the online world for a TIME 100 talk to discuss how we use the internet and social media.

Promoting the event, which is being held virtually next week, the magazine showed a new photo of the Sussexes – and it’s very different from their previous royal pictures.

They are both wearing suits in the black and white photo, with Meghan sitting on a chair while Harry leans on the arm rest.

The Duchess is resting her arm on her husband’s leg and smiling broadly.

There are also two more shots of them separately in a similar style.

TIME’s online description for the event states: “On October 20, join TIME and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex for a specially curated TIME100 Talks episode that will dive into the state of our digital experience.

“‘Engineering A Better World’ will bring together experts, advocates, and online creators to elevate essential and timely conversations that impact all of us – and explore how we can create online communities that are more compassionate, safe, and trustworthy.”

Last month the couple recorded a video in their new LA home as part of the magazine’s annual list of the top 100 most influential people.

In the clip, which was filmed in the garden, Harry spoke about the US election for the first time as he urged Americans to ‘vote against hate speech’.

He discussed the need for the good to “outweigh” the bad and spoke about the dangers of ‘online negativity’.

He said: “As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.

“When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realize it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourself in someone else’s shoes.

“Because when one person buys into negativity online the effects are felt exponentially. It’s time to not only, but to act.”

Harry also explained how he would not be able to vote and had never voted in the UK as a member of the royal family.

While it is not against the law for members of the Royal Family to vote, their involvement in politics would always be seen as an unacceptable breach of protocol.

The royals political neutrality is seen as they key to maintaining a balanced state in which an elected government makes political decisions.

Meghan Markle also commented on the election – saying it was the ‘most important one of our lifetime’.

She added: “Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is.

“When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do and you deserve to be heard.”
