The Original Cast of the ‘Harry Potter’ Film Series Will Appear in a Retrospective, But JK Rowling Will Not.

Harry Potter has reached the milestone of 20 years old.

WarnerMedia recently announced a retrospective in honor of the first film’s release anniversary.

The special will feature original director Chris Columbus and the cast.

JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, will, however, be absent from the event.

What we know about Rowling’s absence is as follows.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max will air a Harry Potter retrospective on New Year’s Day 2022.

Furthermore, it features a slew of familiar faces that fans will enjoy seeing again.

The cast of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts includes Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Daniel Radcliffe.

Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Ian Hart, Helena Bonham Carter, Jason Isaacs, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, and Bonnie Wright will also appear.

Last but not least, director Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) will be present.

After the second film, Columbus stepped down as director of the Harry Potter franchise.

However, before exiting the franchise for good, he produced Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

HBO Max is an obvious choice for the new special because the streaming service already has all of the Harry Potter films available.

JK Rowling, the series’ author, is conspicuously absent from WarnerMedia’s release.

Rowling’s absence was not explained.

However, when she made comments about the trans community in June 2020, the iconic author drew widespread condemnation.

Rowling will appear in archival footage, according to THR’s “sources close to the project,” even though she won’t be in the new production.

“It’s been an incredible journey since the premiere of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and witnessing how it’s evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least,” Warner Bros. president Tom Ascheim said.

According to THR, Global Kids, Young Adults, and Classics are the three categories.

“From the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later, this retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon.”
