Patton Oswalt Shares Behind-the-Scenes Photos from Pip the Troll Motion-Capture Work on Marvel’s Eternals

You’ve probably heard about the thrilling Eternals mid-credits scene, which featured some unexpected guest stars.

Not only did Harry Styles appear as Eros, Thanos’ brother, but he was joined by Pip the Troll, played by Patton Oswalt.

Matt Aitken, an Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor, recently spoke with ComicBook.com’s Adam Barnhardt about Eternals, and revealed that Patton Oswalt not only voiced the character but also acted it out on the sound stage.

He did everything while on his knees, in fact.

The story was shared on Twitter earlier today by ComicBook.com, which Ostwalt quoted along with some behind-the-scenes photos.

Oswalt captioned the photo, “Albert Finney voice: ‘Ah, an actor’s life…,'”

Jim Starlin, the creator of Pip and dozens of other classic cosmic Marvel characters, recently spoke with ComicBook.com and stated that Marvel Studios could not have cast Pip better.

Starlin praised Oswalt’s casting, saying, “Oh, yeah, I think he’s perfect for it.”

“I loved how he voiced MODOK in that cartoon series.

‘Eh, it’s okay,’ I said after watching the first one.

“Now, Patton’s always been a character actor who I think has terrific range, and I think his voice is just perfect for it,” he continued, “and then I got hooked and just laughed my ass throughout the rest of it.”

“I’ve been lobbying for Pip every time I’ve seen Kevin Feige in the last two years,” Starlin revealed.

“And obviously, I have more influence than I thought [laughs],” he added. “But the truth of the matter is, they work on these things years ahead of time, so he’s probably been chuckling up his sleeve every time I’ve seen him in recent years and asked, ‘Gey, when are we going to see Pip?’ And he’ll mutter something because he knew it was coming all along.”
