The premiere of Riverdale Season 6 transports viewers to an alternate universe in which RiverDale is actually RiverVale and things take a supernatural turn.
Rivervale is far, far more dangerous than Riverdale.
But how did the CW’s Archie Comics adaptation end up in this bizarre universe? Riverdale fans have a few theories as to why Rivervale exists.

Season 6 of Riverdale starts with Jughead (Cole Sprouse) impersonating a Rod Sterling-style narrator in a Twilight Zone homage.
He brings viewers up to speed on the residents of Rivervale, including himself.
Reggie (Charles Melton) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) become the town’s power couple, while he and Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook) move in together.
Toni (Vanessa Morgan) and Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner) are raising Anthony, their child.
Oh, and that bomb that seemed to kill Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Archie (KJ Apa) in the season 5 finale?
Archie wakes up from a nightmare and tells Betty that a bomb went off and the town was renamed Riverdale early in the first episode.
This gives fans the impression that Rivervale is set in a parallel universe.
Some elements from Season 5 have been carried over, such as Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) succeeding Thornhill as mayor.

Fans have some theories about how Riverdale became Rivervale.
Some users on Reddit speculated that Archie or Betty may be in a coma as a result of the explosion, and that Rivervale is just a dream.

One user referred to the sound Archie and Betty hear in his room in the premiere as “definitely a coma dream.”
Another theory claims that Jughead is working on a new book.
