Rupert Grint was cast as Ron in ‘Harry Potter’ thanks to an original rap.
Casting in the Harry Potter films was like winning the lottery.
Thousands of people applied for roles in the film adaptations as a result of the eponymous book series.
The battle to portray the golden trio was especially fierce.
The films revolved around Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.
Despite the odds, Rupert Grint was adamant about landing the part of Ron.
Grint developed a passion for performing at a young age, despite having no professional acting credits prior to the Harry Potter movies.
He began acting in school plays after discovering his love of theatre.
When that wasn’t enough, he joined a local theatre group in his area.
Grint, like so many other kids, was enthralled by the Harry Potter books.
He jumped at the chance to audition when he learned that the novels were being adapted into films.
He’d always had a soft spot for Ron, noting the character’s resemblance to himself.
And when he saw that they were taking videos from kids his age, he decided to give it a try.

Grint said on Live with Kelly and Ryan, “The [Harry Potter] books were becoming quite like a phenomenon, and I was a big fan of them.”
“In England, there was this new program called Newsround, and they wanted kids my age to come forward and fill out application forms and stuff.”
Grint was well aware that his chances of landing a role in Harry Potter were slim.
After all, he wasn’t the only one in his group of friends who had submitted a video.
So he decided to do something to catch the casting department’s attention.
The Servant actor decided to include a rap in his video.
How Much Money Did the ‘Harry Potter’ Films Make?
Grint admitted, “I basically just made a videotape of myself kind of doing a rap.”
What were the lyrics to this rap? According to Grint, “it was basically just information,” which included his name, height, and other details.
The actor has shared snippets of the rap with Harry Potter fans over the years.
While Grint doesn’t recall everything, he does recall the first line…
