Sam Asghari, Britney Spears’ fiance, raises eyebrows with a Justin Timberlake reference.

On a night when Justin Timberlake was back in the spotlight on Twitter, his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears’ fiancé Sam Asghari posted something unusual.

Did Sam Asghari, Britney Spears’ fiancé, make a dig at Justin Timberlake?

That’s what many fans wondered after Asghari posted a comment on his Instagram Story that included the name of one of JT’s most famous songs, at a time when the latter pop star was already a social media sensation.

On Saturday, November 10th,

“Bringing sexy back is cool and all but bringing (real) back in Hollywood is even sexier,” Asghari captioned a screenshot of a Variety article titled “Britney Spears’ Fiancé Sam Asghari Thanks Pop Singer for Helping Put His Acting Career ‘On the Map.'” He added a winking face with tongue emoji to the post.

“Did Sam Asghari just drag Justin Timberlake?” one Twitter user wondered, while “Did Sam just shade JT?” another wondered.

Timberlake, who had a hit with “Sexyback” in 2006, has not responded to Asghari’s comments.

Timberlake’s name had been trending on Twitter since the night before, when FX and Hulu premiered the New York Times documentary Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson, sparking new criticism of the singer.

The show focuses on the controversy that erupted when Justin Timberlake, a surprise guest performer at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, ripped off a piece of Janet Jackson’s outfit to expose one of her breasts during her headlining set.

The film depicts how TV executives, the media, and the general public blamed Jackson for the “wardrobe malfunction,” which tainted her career but not Timberlake’s, and fueled questions about whether racism and sexism played a role.

In February, when the 2021 Super Bowl brought back memories of “Nipplegate,” as well as following the release of a previous New York Times documentary, Framing Britney Spears, which focused on his ex’s legal and personal turmoil, he drew public criticism on social media.

After their 2002 breakup, she was shamed by the media and by Timberlake, according to the show.

“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns…I am deeply sorry for the time in my life where my actions…,” the “Sexyback” singer wrote on Instagram days after the 2021 Super Bowl.
