Shirley Ballas rushed to hospital after breaking her ankle as Strictly star shares ‘gratitude’ for partner Daniel Taylor

STRICTLY Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas is currently recovering after being rushed to hospital with a broken ankle.

The 59-year-old professional dancer thanked NHS staff for their care as she took to Instagram to update fans on her health.

Shirley uploaded a clip of herself on crutches as she made her through the hospital.

The TV star was wearing a face mask and protective gloves as she hobbled in a boot.

She said: “Hi everybody. I’ve just finished at A&E and I’ve got a clean break on my right ankle”.

Shirley then went on to explain she was learning to use her crutches correctly before reassuring followers she would be better in time for the upcoming series of Strictly.

Alongside the video, the BBC star wrote: “So a clean break. Six weeks to heal. Thank you to NHS and all staff who took care of me. @danieltayloresq thank you for being there.

“Painful but I’ll trolly on. #cleanbreak #brokenankle. I’ll be fine for @bbcstrictly thank you for all the messages. #gratitude.”

Meanwhile, boyfriend Daniel also shared a string of photos of Shirley during her hospital dash.

He said: “In A&E with this brave soldier @shirleyballas ! You can never say it enough but thank you to our amazing #NHS for your time and care and of course all the sacrifices you all make on a daily basis to look after our country. #livingangels.”

Shirley’s fellow Strictly stars rushed to comment their support, with Dianne Buswell writing: “Oh no hope your ok xxx.”

Neil Jones said: “I hope it heals quickly.”

Graziano Di Prima added: “Take care queen!! sending Love!!!!”

Her sudden injury comes days after Shirley revealed she has put on 20lb “eating all day and night” during lockdown.

She told The Sun: “I am fat. I can’t fit in my trousers but I am not going up another dress size. I have gained 20 pounds from when you last photographed me, but I am six pounds down this morning.

“Mum said to me, ‘You’ve lost that five-pound bag of spuds off your ar*e — only three more bags to go’. No one wants to see my bits jiggling.”

The dancer added: “You feel a bit chunky and it plays on your mind. I would like to think that by the time Strictly is back on air, I’ll be back at my normal weight.

“That is 120 pounds (8st 8lb). And right now I’m at 134 and two ounces (9st 8lb). I am doing it in ounces.”
