Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Ross Malinger, and Other ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ Cast Members: Where Are They Now?

Where Have Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Ross Malinger, and Others from ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ Gone?

The Empire State Building is for lovers! For nearly three decades, audiences — and hopeless romantics everywhere — have been enthralled by Sleepless in Seattle.

The heartwarming story of a widowed father Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) and his son Jonah (Ross Malinger) trying to get back on their feet after moving to Seattle and living on a houseboat has stood the test of time.

Jonah realizes that his father is still unhappy after the death of his mother, so he dials a late-night radio talk show for advice and to set up a date for him.

Listeners from all over the world fall in love with both Jonah and Sam, who eventually bares his soul on the show, including Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), a reporter.

Annie quickly realizes that despite being engaged, Sam is the right man for her.

On New Year’s Eve in New York City, Annie has a lightbulb moment while dining with her fiancé (Bill Pullman).

She eventually abandons him and makes her way to the Empire State Building, where Jonah and Sam await her.

The scene, inspired by An Affair to Remember, has since become a moment that fans have attempted to recreate in their own lives.

For example, in the 2014 finale of her hit comedy The Mindy Project, Mindy Kaling paid homage to the rom-com by having the main characters meet at the top of the iconic building.

“I grew up in the time of the great romantic comedy movies of the ’90s, and I wasn’t a snob about any of them either,” Kaling said of her love of rom-coms, particularly those directed by Ephron, to Audible in December 2019.

“It could be Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman’s movie While You Were Sleeping, or Sleepless in Seattle.”

I genuinely enjoy the genre, and I’ve always believed it is underappreciated.”

“I feel like people talk about romantic comedies they love and say they’re their guilty pleasures,” the Late Night actress added.

However, I do not believe in guilty pleasures; rather, I believe in pleasures.

And I believe that they are often undervalued because women enjoy romantic comedies.
