Tonight on TV: Alan Cumming and Miriam Margolyes visit their hometown of Glasgow, where they grew up.

In the Bake Off semi-final, Chigs, Giuseppe, Crystelle, and Jürgen compete, while Rhod Gilbert leads this year’s DIY SOS Big Build for Children in Need.

Channel 4 (9:15 p.m.)

On paper, this appears to be more TV filler in which celebrities visit well-traveled parts of the UK – but Alan Cumming and Miriam Margolyes as traveling companions were always going to be more interesting than Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, for example.

Cummings and Margolyes are reconnecting with their Scottish roots, Margolyes with her Glaswegian immigrant father, and Cummings with his trauma-filled childhood home (much more painfully).

Indeed, his memories of bullying are so painful that he refuses to enter when he is invited.

They go to Cawdor Castle, a tartan mill, and meet Bill Paterson.

Channel 4 at 8 p.m.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had an afternoon in the tent as satisfying as that,” Prue Leith exclaims after Paul Hollywood gives out not one, but two of his coveted handshakes during a signature challenge.

Chigs, Giuseppe, Crystelle, and Jürgen enter an “eerily quiet” tent for the semi-final of Patisserie Week.

Previewers aren’t allowed to see who goes home, as is customary, but splitting this quartet will be difficult.

BBC One at 9 p.m

Mark Miller, the team’s build manager, believes the team needs another “rough old boy with a scruffy beard who knows nothing about building” now that Nick Knowles is unavailable.

Rhod Gilbert, a comedian, joins them near Hull to help the Children In Need youth project known as “St Mike’s” in the local community.

The goal is to turn an overgrown 2.5-acre plot of land gifted to the charity in 2019 into a fully functional campsite and adventure playground.

However, just because the project is for a good cause does not exempt it from a problem that plagues the rest of the industry: supply chain issues.

BBC Two at 9.10pm

Judge Kenneth Starr (Dan Bakkedahl of Veep) joins the cast as he gathers his team to consider whether they have enough evidence to impeach President Clinton.

Monica, meanwhile, becomes nervous and paranoid about the case as she learns more about the allegations, swearing in an affidavit that nothing happened between her and Bill Clinton.

Paula’s Arkansas deposition reveals how personal and intimate the case is for her.
