WESTWORLD star Evan Rachel Wood wants to reprise her role as Dolores despite her getting killed off last season.
Dolores has been a major character in the sci-fi series since it started three seasons ago.
Season three of HBO’s dystopian Wild West drama ended in an explosive finale which saw Dolores destroy the artificial intelligence program Rehoboam, while erasing herself from existence at the same time.
Bosses confirmed “Dolores is gone”, but Wood, 32, would be keen to come back if allowed.
Speaking on The Big Ticket podcast with showrunner Jonathan Nolan, Wood said anything was possible in Westworld.
“I would like to return,” she said, and explaining when she was told of Dolores’ demise.
“I found out, I think, halfway through season three.
“We get the general idea of each season, then we learn as we go.
“So [Nolan] called me up and broke the news. He said she was going to die, he was very blunt about it.”
But Nolan gave fans a reason for hope when he said Wood could come back.
Nolan told Variety that although “Dolores is gone”, he “f*****g hopes” Wood isn’t.
He said: “Let me clarify: Dolores is gone.
“We’re not yet discussing publicly the direction the show is taking, but the fun thing about this show is, you know, from the beginning [we]wanted to make a show that constantly reinvented itself, that could be a different show every season.”
Explaining how death is “impermanent” in Westworld, Nolan said Dolores fate served to remind viewers that its characters “are robots, after all”.
The 43-year-old went on: “I think it’s important with a show in which death can be impermanent – these are robots, after all – to mark the occasion with Dolores.
“That version of that character is gone.”
Fortunately, with a fourth season of Westworld confirmed by HBO last month, there could be good news coming for fans of Rachel Wood, as Nolan suggested her role in the series may be re-imagined.
He said: “We love Evan Rachel Wood and we haven’t started talking publicly about exactly what the show looks like going forward.
“But it looks very different.”
Westworld season 3 is available to stream in full on NOW TV.
