What to expect from your Haven holiday post-pandemic – with pre-booked arrival slots and one-way systems

HAVEN Holiday Parks attracted over three million visitors in 2019 – and they’re not letting Covid-19 put a damper on 2020.

The family friendly resort has been welcoming back holidaymakers since reopening on July 2 having closed its doors for three-and-a-half months while the UK went into lockdown.

There are some great late summer holiday deals to take advantage of too.

Regulars will no doubt be curious what they’ll encounter now the parks have to adhere to strict government guidelines and social distancing.

But after visiting Haven’s Seashore Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, I can happily report there’s only a few minor tweaks – and some, believe it or not, will enhance your staycation.

For starters, the parks have reduced the number of intake meaning it’s below capacity, therefore booking a table at either of it’s two main restaurants – including the new Coasthouse Bar – shouldn’t be an issue.

And the resort now offers a takeaway service, so food and drink from the restaurants – plus the standard offering from the onsite Burger King and Papa Johns booths – can now be sampled in the comfort of your own caravan, which are more spotless than usual.

Indeed, the park’s new Clean and Safe charter has ramped up the cleanliness to new levels.

Hand sanitiser stations are littered across the park and every staff member is wearing a protective face visor.

Twenty per cent more cleaning time has been applied to every caravan, as part of a new nine-point cleaning process, and specialist cleaning materials known to kill viruses like Coronavirus are used during every clean.

Resort cleaners have even been retrained to meet new standards and a specially trained member of the Haven cleaning squad inspects each caravan.

The caravan is only deemed visitor ready when it’s signed off by them.

Following the check, a special seal is applied to the entrance door to signal the accommodation has been cleaned to their standard.

There are also a number of other differences holidaymakers will have to get used to this summer.

Gone are the days of turning up whenever you want on arrival day.

Now you have to book an arrival slot and if you’re early, you’ll have to wait to prevent overcrowding at the resort entrance.

The number of people allowed in the supermarket at any one time has been capped, meaning the likelihood is you’ll have to queue outside before you do your food shop.

And you’ll also have to wear a face mask when they become mandatory.

The two main entertainment areas have designated Ikea style one-way systems, which is even evident in the resort’s huge amusement arcade section.

Sadly, the live evening shows at the Marina Lounge and popular attractions such as the Aerial Adventure are temporarily out of action.

As is the site’s impressive indoor swimming pool, which will reopen on July 25 when nationwide restrictions are finally lifted, the Creative Studio for budding young artists and the nature centre and trail.

But as the name suggests, Seashore Park is right on the beach so there is ample entertainment to be had there and your swimming trunks and bikinis still have usage.

And kids can still enjoy the two play areas and AstroTurf football pitch, adventure golf and two basketball courts.

Plus, renting out the four-seater pedal karts four for an hour is always good fun, even if your 10-year-old daughter is in charge of steering while your seven-year-old daughter films a TikTok video.

And should you be seeking an afternoon outside of the park, just a five minute drive away is the Great Yarmouth seafront itself with it’s two piers and various theme parks.

The seaside town is a throwback to the classic British holiday with ice cream parlours, fish and chip shops and hot fresh donut stalls scattered across the bustling promenade.

And the huge sandy beach is an absolute gem too.

So even though Haven is branding their summer getaways in 2020 “Hideaways” rather than “Holidays”, you will still feel like you’ve had an enjoyable family break.

And above all else, you will feel safe in doing so.
