FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, March 30 (Xinhua) — Five militants were killed and four others wounded in an airstrike carried out by the Afghan Air Force on Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan’s northern Badakhshan province on Monday night, the military confirmed on Tuesday.
“The strike was conducted on a Taliban position in Nusay district. A Taliban control and command center was also destroyed by the force of the strike,” Abdul Hadi Jamal from the Afghan army’s Corps 217 Pamir stationed in the region told Xinhua.
Juma Talabani, a Taliban shadow district chief for Nusay, was among the wounded militants, according to Jamal.
The mountainous province has been the scene of heavy clashes in recent years.
Militancy and counter-militancy traditionally gets momentum in spring and summer commonly known as the fighting season in the Asian country. Enditem
