TALUQAN, Afghanistan, March 29 (Xinhua) — Five militants were killed as Afghan government forces stormed a Taliban checkpoint in Ishkamish district of the northern Takhar province on Monday, an army officer in the province Abdul Razaq said.
The Taliban militants set up a checkpoint on a road linking Ishkamish to Burka district in the neighboring Baghlan province, and units of the Afghan national army raided the checkpoint Monday morning, killing five militants and injuring two others, forcing the insurgents to flee, the officer said.
No casualties were reported in security personnel or civilians during the raid, he added.
Taliban militants who are in control of parts of Takhar and the neighboring Baghlan province haven’t made comment on the incident. Enditem
