LUANDA, March 26 (Xinhua) — Angola’s national football team failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022 after a 1-0 defeat against the Gambia on Thursday in Banjul, local media reported.
The goal of the Gambian team was scored by Assan Ceesay, in the 61st minute, eliminating the Angolans from competing for the ninth time in the continental competition.
With the result, the Angolans remain in last position in group D, with only one point, with no chance of qualifying for the final stage of the competition.
The Gambia leads the group with 10 points followed by Gabon also with 10 points. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is in third place with six points. Enditem
