CHELSEA fans have gone into meltdown after the club’s official Twitter account posted a cryptic message about Frank Lampard.

The Blues’ record goalscorer is now favourite to replace Maurizio Sarri as boss at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri is on the verge of joining Juventus after the agreed a compensation package of around £5m.

In his first season as a manager, Lampard helped Derby County reach the Championship play-off final this season.

Despite losing the game to Aston Villa, many believe the former England international is the right man to take over at Chelsea.

While nothing concrete has been announced yet, Chelsea’s official Twitter has got fans excited after a message posted on Friday afternoon.

Alongside a picture of Lampard, the tweet draws attention to the fact that Lampard signed for the Blues on this day in 2001.

”On this day on 2001….Frank Lampard became a Blue,” the message simply reads.

In response, fans have themselves taken to social media and they cannot hide their excitement.

Many believe that the message is a sign that Lampard’s return is imminent.

“THE LEGEND IS COMING BACK ,” one fan tweeted.

“Might as well just announce him as manager now,” said another.

Another wrote: “Best manager in the world.”

“He’s coming home,” said another.

Another Chelsea fan wrote: “On this day in 2019…Frank Lampard returns to the blues!”

“Announce Lampard ,” said another.

Lampard is Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer with 211 goals in 648 games for the club.

In his 13 years at the club, he won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the Champions League, and the Europa League.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp, who is also Lampard’s cousin, is in no doubt that he would be the right choice to replace Sarri at Chelsea.

“Frank would be the perfect person,” he told Sky Sports.

“Maurizio Sarri is still the manager right now so until that changes, if it were to change and if they need a manager next year, they need someone who’s going to come in and stabilise the club.

“They have lost their best player (Eden Hazard) and they have got a transfer embargo for two or three windows, so you need someone that everybody loves and they will give them time.”
