ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) — The Ethiopian Ministry of Health said Sunday the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the East African country rose to 131,195, after new 423 cases were reported.
The ministry said that the number of deaths from the virus in the country reached 2,030 as of Sunday evening, including one new death reported during the last 24 hours.
The ministry further said that 102 patients have recovered in the past day, bringing the total recovery number to 116,147 so far.
It said that 13,016 cases of COVID-19 are active ones, 225 of which are said to be under severe conditions.
Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation with more than 110 million people, has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the East African region.
The East African country is the fifth-most affected country by COVID-19 in the African continent, after South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. Enditem
