Ghislaine Maxwell ‘fears for life and thinks Epstein was murdered in prison cell’

Ghislaine Maxwell thinks shamed former lover Jeffrey Epstein was killed in his prison cell and now fears for her own life, it has been been claimed.

Friends of the arrested socialite say she hired bodyguards before she was locked up after receiving death threats.

Financier Epstein was found dead last August while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Officials said his death was an apparent suicide and the FBI investigated the incident.

But Maxwell – facing up to 35 years in jail if found guilty for playing a part in the abuse of the under-age girls – reportedly believes he was targeted in prison and didn’t take his own life.

Now she feels the same thing could happen to her behind bars, it has been claimed.

“Everyone’s view including Ghislaine’s is Epstein was murdered – she received death threats before she was arrested,” a family friend told The Sun On Sunday.

Another source said: “It’s the same as Guantanamo Bay — lights on, noise and constant interruption of sleep”.

US prosecutors have meanwhile told how Maxwell had ‘secretly married’ to show she was not being transparent about her life.

She refused to give any details of her spouse as she was denied bail and ordered to stay behind bars until her trial in July next year.

Maxwell has long been accused of being the gatekeeper to the secrets the financier took to his grave when he died last year.

Epstein was well known to have covertly recorded guests at his homes in New York, Palm Beach, New Mexico and the Caribbean.

Maxwell is being held in the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn where she has been given anti-suicide paper clothes.
