The mum of a seven-year-old girl who drowned after getting into difficulty at a beauty spot has paid tribute to her “guardian angel”.

Freya Skene died in a freak accident involving “multiple waterfalls” at Ossian’s Cave in Dunkeld, Scotland on Monday night.

Despite desperate attempts by rescuers to save her, Freya died at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Her heartbroken mum Brooke Reid, 26, has since paid an emotional tribute to her on Facebook, the Daily Record reports.

She told her friends in the public post:
“As most of you are aware yesterday we had to say goodbye to our best friend, our life, our world, our everything.

“I stayed with Freya the whole night and most of today before she was taken away.

“Everyone tried their best and I couldn’t be anymore grateful for the emergency teams all out trying to save us.

“Me and Freya were in a freak accident that had us pulled down multiple waterfalls. We were playing in the fairy pools and next minute out of nowhere a current hit us both and swept us.

“I tried my very best to hold on and grab every rock in the passing but before I knew it we had lost each other.

“I was lucky to survive but sadly our poor baby girl passed away.

“I believe this was instant for her.

“As I was trapped on rocks Sean managed to get Freya out but it was too late.

“However the emergency teams treated us both as best as they could.

“My heart and everyone else’s within the families are broken.

“We were having such a good day, how could this happen, how could our baby girl be taken away from us so suddenly, how did I survive.

“What I know is I survived for a reason and we are all going to make her so proud and I know she left a print on everyone’s heart because she was so kind, caring, bubbly and determined in life.

“As well as being a cheeky little devil, sometimes I wondered who was the mum hahaa.

“I’ll miss her so much and I don’t know how life will be without her but together as a family we are going to do everything we can to make sure shes always remembered.
”

She added: “Please I ask if you can give us time. We are all still trying to process what has happened.

“Freya Ava Skene we will always love you and we were so proud to have you in our life for that short time.

“Like I have said from the beginning when you came into my life and saved me. You’re my little Guardian Angel and now you truly are. I love you honey bunch.”

Freya’s dad, Robert Skene, also posted a tribute to his little girl and said: “Not something any parent should be posting about their baby but me and Brooke sadly lost our beautiful baby girl last night.

“The amount of support from everyone has been amazing and we can’t thank you enough.

“Until we meet again Freya Skene love you always and forever my baby”

Last night a fundraising page was set up on the website  gofundme.com  to help the Dundee family with Freya’s funeral costs

“Hundreds of tributes have been paid to little Freya by shocked family and friends.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.50pm on Monday, 6 July, to a report of two people in the water at Ossian’s Cave, the Hermitage, Dunkeld.

“A seven-year-old girl and a 26-year old woman were taken by the Scottish Ambulance Service to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

“Sadly the child was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone who has any information and not already spoken to officers is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3124 of Monday, 6 July, 2020.”
