A healthy nine-year-old girl died from coronavirus in her sleep after going for a nap after playing with friends, her family said.
Tragic Kimora Lynum had been taken to hospital days before her death when her temperature topped 100F, but she wasn’t tested for Covid-19.
The schoolgirl, from Florida, was told she had an infection and sent home to recover.
But days later her mum found her unresponsive after saying she was tired, and Kimora’s grandmother did CPR in a frantic effort to save her.
She was only tested for Covid-19 after her death.
Tragically her death happened just three months after her dad was shot dead, a relative said.
Kimora’s mum Mikasha Young-Holmes told WCJB : “I was shaking her, yelling at her.
“I yelled at my mom and told her to come in here because Kim is not breathing.”
Grandmother Mashell Atkins said she did everything she could to save Kimora’s life.
Mikasha said she could not believe her daughter was never tested for coronavirus after she developed a fever.
“I thought they would have jumped on that when they saw her fever,” she said.
In a JustGiving page set up to help pay for Kimica’s funeral costs, Kimora, known as ‘Kimmie’ was described as a “jovial, fun loving, and free-spirited 9-year-old child”.
Shortly before her death she had been playing with friends after seeming to get better, the heartbroken family said.
She had no underlying health conditions, her loved ones stated.
The fundraising page continues: “Kimmie spent the day playing with family and friends outside and was in great spirits that day.
“Later in the evening, she informed her mother she was feeling tired, so she was going to lie down. A short time later, Kimmie’s mother went to check on Kimmie and found her unresponsive.”
Tragically her death on July 17 came just three months after her dad Theophilus Lynum was shot dead.
Cousin Dejeon told WGFL : “This is like a double whammy.
“We just buried him and now we’re burying her. The family is troubled.”
Dejeon said Kimora was “still was joyous and had that grace on her” after her dad’s death.
She is the fifth child in Florida to die from coronavirus.
