This horrific photograph shows a blood-soaked police officer helping her partner after they were shot in a brutal attack.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the hero officer reportedly called for help and applied a tourniquet to her downed colleague.
The officer, who is a mother, helped her partner despite suffering from a gunshot wound to her jaw.
They were both seriously injured when a lone gunman walked up to their squad car and opened fire in Compton, Los Angeles, on Saturday.
The attack was captured on CCTV, with the gunman seen fleeing the scene on foot after blasting the vehicle.
The latest shocking picture shows the male officer, 24, kneeling behind a column with his bloodied hand on display while his 31-year-old colleague stands next to him.
Fox LA reporter Bill Melugin, who acquired the picture, said: “I’m told female deputy was shot through jaw, still radioed for help & applied tourniquet to male deputy’s wounds. Both stable now.”
The officers were left fighting for their lives after the shooting, with LA Sheriff Alex Villanueva calling their survival ‘a double miracle’, the New York Post reports.
Speaking after the shooting, he said: “This is just a somber reminder that this is a dangerous job, and actions and words have consequences.
“Our job does not get any easier because people do not like law enforcement.
“It p***es me off, it dismays me at the same time. There’s no pretty way to say it.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) previously tweeted: “One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle.
“Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition.”
Both deputies were rookies and had been sworn in 14 months ago.
Reacting to the incident, President Donald Trump retweeted the video and wrote, “Animals that must be hit hard!”
