Iran reports 6,016 COVID-19 cases, 1,330,411 in total


TEHRAN, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) — Iran’s health ministry reported 6,016 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the total nationwide infections to 1,330,411.

The pandemic has so far claimed 56,803 lives in Iran, up by 86 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

Of the newly infected, 523 were hospitalized. A total of 1,119,137 people have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospitals, while 4,374 remain in intensive care units, she said.

Currently, 10 Iranian cities are on red alert for a high risk of infection, the spokeswoman added.
