Ahead of the publication of an extraordinary new book about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Finding Freedom, the couple’s team released a statement saying they had absolutely nothing to do with its contents.
They said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom. This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
However, many royal experts and fans have raised an eyebrow at this, saying it’s “very hard to believe” that they had no involvement at all.
The book includes extremely detailed accounts of events and insider information, all of which have been confirmed by “two sources”.
However there is one line in particular that has got tongues wagging, as one of the source quotes is identical to one Meghan herself gave in her first interview about her royal romance back in 2017.
In the book, a source who is said to be very close to the couple says: “He [Harry] knew Meghan was right for him. Their love was real, and their feelings for each other were genuine. Everything else was noise.”
In Meghan’s Vanity Fair cover interview about Prince Harry, in which she discussed for the first time what it was like dating a royal, she said: “The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”
Many royal experts believe the couple were part of the book, and say it’s going to be “uncomfortable reading” for the royals.
Speaking on Lorraine, the Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers said: “It’s a lot of mud slinging this book, and I don’t think it will be comfortable reading for anyone in royal family.
“It’s airing dirty laundry in public.
“I don’t understand why they would have thought it was a good idea.
“You go back to their team saying they’ve had no cooperation in this, but that is very hard to believe indeed.”
The book’s authors say every detail of the book has been confirmed by at least two sources.
Russell adds: “One may wonder who those two sources are, there are absolutely explosive details.
“They talk not only about the relationship, but the breakdown of the relationship with the entire family, the Queen, Charles and William. It’s all there to see.
“It’s absolutely extraordinary.
“A lot of the stories that they have been complaining about over the last couple of years have been proved correct. The courtiers calling her Duchess Difficult, that’s confirmed, that she was having friction within the royal household.
“But also the relationship with Kate. These are two women with very different backgrounds.
“They’ve got very different roles within the institution, but she accuses Kate of being unfriendly and unwelcoming.
“People I’ve spoken to have said that couldn’t have been further from the case.
“They invited them over for Christmas, they made real efforts to try and bring her into the family and made her feel welcome.”
