Laborer killed, 8 injured in southern Pakistan’s factory collapse

ISLAMABAD, March 29 (Xinhua) — A laborer was killed and eight others were injured when the roof of a factory partially collapsed in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi in Sindh province on Monday, local media and officials said.

Rescue teams rushed to the area following the collapse and were trying to recover some other laborers who were feared to be trapped under the rubbles, the reports said.

Fire also erupted in the factory shortly after the collapse, which was extinguished by the fire tenders to minimize the loss of lives of the stranded laborers.

The incident happened due to the accidental explosion of the boiler of the factory which manufactures electricity cables, the reports added.

Sindh Rescue and Medical Services, a department working under the provincial government, said that the injured people were being shifted to Civil Hospital of the city by ambulances. Enditem
