WARSAW, March 29 (Xinhua) — Robert Lewandowski scored twice to lead Poland to their first victory in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Warsaw on Sunday.
The team coached by Paulo Sousa controlled the match to win 3-0 as Karol Swiderski had an excellent debut to score in the final stages.
The captain of the hosts needed 30 minutes to find an opener. Lewandowski’s deflected shot left Andorra goalkeeper Iker Alvarez helpless after a precise header by Maciej Rybus from a free-kick. The Bayern Munich striker doubled the lead ten minutes after the break to beat Alvarez from the close range.
The 24-year-old substitute Karol Swiderski made it 3-0 on his debut with two minutes remaining on the clock with the stunning pass by Kamil Grosicki from left-wing.
The Portuguese Paulo Sousa takes his first victory as Poland coach following the home 1-1 draw against Hungary in the first round.
On Wednesday, Andora hosts Hungary while Poland travels to Wembley to face England. Enditem
