A LION persistent in trying to get near a pack of cubs learnt a hard lesson after a group of lionesses ganged up on him.

The video was filmed on June 6 at the Pondoro Game Lodge, South Africa.

In the clip, the big cat can be seen slowly creeping up on the cubs but fails to notice a female hidden among the grass.

The rest of the pack soon clock him after he is snapped at by the ferocious lioness.

He quickly becomes surrounded by the females as an echoing symphony of growls radiates from the pack.

After he appears to take too much time in fleeing the scene, the females grow angry and begin to lunge at him.

One female nips at his behind, forcing him to his feet.

Another jumps on his back appearing to dig her claws in.

After successfully scaring him away the protected cubs walk out of hiding in the bush.

Baby growls can be heard while the young can be seen rubbing up against their mum.

Since being uploaded to YouTube, more than 1,000 people have flooded in to view the rare sighting.

One person said: “Absolutely amazing. The mummy lioness was not playing around with him and actually made him stand down.

“Hopefully everyone was ok. Thank you for sharing.”

Another added: “The power of mums.”

It comes after a half-lion, half-tiger, dubbed the world’s largest cat, was filmed being taken for a walk.
