RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) — Striker Marinho scored his 17th league goal of the season as Santos ended a six-game winless run with a 2-0 home victory over Coritiba in Brazil’s Serie A championship on Saturday.
The former Changchun Yatai player struck with a long-range effort just before halftime before Marcos Leonardo headed home the hosts’ second goal seven minutes from time.
The result left Santos eighth in the standings with 50 points from 35 matches and kept alive their hopes of securing a place in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores.
Coritiba remain in 19th place with 28 points and look set to be relegated to Brazilian football’s second tier.
In other Brazilian Serie A matches on Saturday, Goias won 2-0 at home to Botafogo and Bahia drew 1-1 at Atletico Mineiro. Enditem
