Morocco busts IS-linked cell, arrests 4

RABAT, March 25 (Xinhua) — The Moroccan security services on Thursday busted a cell linked to the Islamic State (IS) militant group and arrested four of its members.

Security operation carried out in the eastern city of Oujda led to the arrest of the four suspects aged between 24 and 28, said a statement of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation, Morocco’s intelligence bureau.

The statement added that the U.S. intelligence services took part in this operation, “which confirms the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.”

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were planning to join the camps of the IS in the Sahel region, it added.

They were also planning to carry out terrorist acts in many places in Morocco, including security buildings and military bases, it said.

The suspects will be brought to justice upon the completion of the investigation led under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, the statement said. Enditem
