NBA 2K21 fans have found out who will be featuring on the cover of this year’s edition of the hit basketball game for the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Today 2K Games has revealed who will feature on the cover of NBA 2K21 on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PCs and Google Stadia.
The first cover star revealed for NBA 2K21 is five-time NBA All-Star and Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard.
Lillard will feature on the cover of NBA 2K21 for current gen formats, with the next-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X getting a different cover athlete.
Speaking about the news, Lillard said: “This is a special moment for me in my NBA career.
“I’ve been a fan of NBA 2K for years and love how they represent all aspects of basketball culture. I’ve been playing 2K my whole life and I’m honoured to join the other NBA greats who have been on the cover. I’m grateful to all my fans and can’t wait for everyone to experience this game later this year.”
While Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K, added: “There are a lot of great players in the NBA today, but Damian Lillard has done a particularly standout job of representing the current generation of NBA superstar.
“From his cultural influence, musical success, off the court leadership, and on court domination, he’s the perfect fit for our cover of NBA 2K21 on current-generation platforms; we’re honored to have him.”
NBA 2K21 fans will soon be finding out who will be on the cover of this year’s entry in the hugely popular basketball series.
Last week the cover star for NBA 2K20 – Anthony Davis – revealed they had the inside track on who will be featuring on the sleeve for NBA 2K21.
In a video on the NBA 2K TikTok account he teased that news about this year’s cover athlete will be coming on June 30, July 1 and July 2.
The clip, which has been watched over 2 million times, has sparked speculation that NBA 2K21 could feature three different cover athletes.
We’ll be finding out who one of these cover stars is on Tuesday, June 30, with an announcement on TikTok once again on the cards.
Fans are calling for NBA legend Kobe Bryant to appear on the cover of this year’s game. This sentiment was shared by his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal, who believes it’s a given that Bryant will appear on the cover.
Bryant was tragically killed in a helicopter crash earlier this year in which all nine people onboard died.
The NBA legend was with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, six family friends as well as the pilot of the chopper.
In the wake of the tragedy there was a huge outpouring of emotion for Bryant, with NBA commissioner Adam Silver among those who paid tribute.
Silver said: “For 20 seasons, Kobe showed us what is possible when remarkable talent blends with an absolute devotion to winning. He was one of the most extraordinary players in the history of our game with accomplishments that are legendary.
“But he will be remembered most for inspiring people around the world to pick up a basketball and compete to the very best of their ability.
“He was generous with the wisdom he acquired and saw it as his mission to share it with future generations of players, taking special delight in passing down his love of the game to Gianna.”
NBA 2K21 is scheduled to launch this fall, and will be getting a next-gen edition which was unveiled during the recent PS5 reveal event.
A brief snippet of footage shown of NBA 2K21 on the PlayStation 5 revealed jaw-dropping, almost photo-realistic gameplay footage.
Which shows that, from a visual standpoint at the very least, the first next-gen NBA 2K game is going to be something pretty spectacular.
