Nikkei opens higher as oversold shares snapped up following slide


TOKYO, March 25 (Xinhua) — Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday as despite a weak lead from Wall Street overnight, investors snapped up issues oversold after the market slump a day earlier.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 214.26 points, or 0.75 percent, from Wednesday to 28,619.78.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 23.88 points, or 1.24 percent, at 1,952.46.

Marine transportation, iron and steel, and mining-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
