PHILLIP SCHOFIELD, who hosts This Morning, has been inundated with messages of support from fellow celebrities after coming out as gay in a candid statement today, as The Chase quizzer Jenny Ryan sent her ITV co-star “huge love”.

Phillip Schofield, 57, came out as gay in a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram story after being married to his wife Stephanie Lowe for nearly 27 years. The presenter, who also appeared on This Morning to be interviewed about his announcement by his co-host Holly Willoughby, has since been praised by fellow stars for his brave revelation.

Phillip’s ITV co-star Jenny Ryan, who is best known as The Vixen on The Chase, lead messages of support dedicated to the TV personality following the news.

She reposted his statement in view of her 65,000 followers and wrote: “Huge love for @Schofe and his family today.

“This can’t have been an easy statement to write, but it will be a huge weight off their shoulders – and it will open up dialogue all over the country.

“Maybe one day it won’t be so hard or painful for *anyone* to come out.”

Jenny was joined by Phillip’s Dancing on Ice co-star, professional skater Matt Evers, who is part of the ITV show’s first same-sex partnership with Ian “H” Watkins.

He tweeted: “Thank you @Schofe for your bravery and honesty. Being your friend and colleague for the past 15 years I’m sending you and your family all the love and support #loveislove.”

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid added: “Love to @Schofe and his family.”

Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams commented: “I am sending all my love to @Schofe today. I have always held him in the highest regard, and now have nothing but respect and admiration for him.

Keith Lemon added in an Instagram post: “Well done to my mate @schofe my telly Jedi! Salute! And love to all the Schofield massive! Word xx.”

“Let’s hope we are moving towards a world where no-one has to come out anymore, they can just be who they are and celebrate that.”

Pointless host Richard Osman tweeted: “When you create a new entertainment show and start discussing who should host, the first name on the list is always Phillip Schofield. That’s a fact. He’s just the very best at what he does, and the public adore him. Looking forward to many more years of his charm and brilliance.”

Little Britain star Matt Lucas responded: “I’m not surprised about Philip Schofield. Growing up I remember him presenting with Gordon the Gopher from inside that closet!

“Joking aside, that cannot have been an easy statement to make. People come out at different stages in their lives. Good luck Philip xxxx”

Victoria Derbyshire also wrote: “So much love for @Schofe for his open, honest, dignified statement.”

GMB favourite Piers Morgan tweeted: “Takes a lot of guts to do this, not least when you’re a very public figure & know it will all be dissected in a very public way. Sending my very best to @schofe & his family.”

Strictly star CatherineTyldesley wrote on Instagram: “We’re all with you @schofe . Nothing changes except everyone loves you a little bit more more for being so strong and brave. May soul shine even brighter now you’ve found your truth. Sending so much love and respect to you and your beautiful family.”

Alongside her interview with Phillip on This Morning, Holly gushed about her fellow presenter in an Instagram post.

She shared a selfie of the pair before their joint appearance on the ITV daytime show and added the caption: “Never been more proud of my friend than I am today. We’ll be together at 10am on This Morning x.”

Phillip welled up with tears on the show as he spoke about his struggle and the support his wife Steph had given him.

Sitting with her co-host on the sofa, Holly said: “You’ve been very open and honest with Steph about this.”

“I have no secrets, we’ve never had any secrets,” Phillip replied, before his co-host asked: “How is she coping?”

The presenter commented: “Yeah, it’s tough. I mean it is tough. But, this isn’t something that’s happened quickly.

“I’ve had to deal with this in my head for quite some time and so we’ve gone through this together.”
