PRINCE WILLIAM confessed that, despite sharing a passion for music, he and his wife Kate Middleton have never gone to Glastonbury festival, an unearthed interview has revealed.
The BBC will be showing the highlights of the last 50 years of Glastonbury music festival this weekend, as the live event has been cancelled due to the lockdown. While both Prince Charles and Prince Harry will be able to look back at the times they have attended the world-famous event, the second-in-line to the throne has never been. Although he never developed a ‘party prince’ reputation which could rival his younger brother’s, William once revealed that he actually would have liked to have attended the huge five-day festival — but one thing stopped him.
He spoke to the BBC in April 2017, and confessed that he is “really into my music”.
He explained: “Unfortunately it’s quite tricky [to go to concerts].
“I talked about going to Glastonbury because I am really into my music and Catherine as well.
“We talked about going to Glastonbury.
“[But] I’ve got into enough trouble for my dancing recently so it’s probably best to keep away from that.”
The Duke of Cambridge was referring to the clip which was circulating online at the time of him “dad dancing” while he was on holiday the previous month.
He was caught on camera dancing to Luniz’s Nineties hit, I Got 5 on it, during a boys’ skiing trip and the clip soon generated a social media storm.
Some accounts said they “couldn’t believe” that the second-in-line to the throne was dancing to a rap song which included lyrics about smoking cannabis, according to The Sun.
Plenty of fans mocked his moves while others criticised William for skipping a Commonwealth Day Service in order to go on the skiing holiday — especially as Kate had been left to tend to their two children at home without him.
The footage was recorded during the early hours of March 15, 2017 — the same day other members of the Royal Family attended the Westminster Abbey service with Commonwealth leaders.
His decision to go on holiday was subsequently torn apart by Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan, who dubbed the royal “work-shy”.
During his holiday, William was spotted on the Swiss slopes of Verbier, partying with friends, including Australian model Sophie Taylor.
Kate was also allegedly furious with her husband for his holiday.
An insider told Vanity Fair at the time of the incident: “It was William’s choice to go away, but make no mistake Kate wears the trousers in their marriage.
“She won’t be happy with William’s antics.
“She thought his partying days and larking around with the boys was a thing of the past.
“I imagine she’ll find this humiliating and William will have to come in for a pasting.”
After such criticism from his last holiday, it was not surprising that William and Kate have not since decided to attend Glastonbury.
When telling the BBC how he and Kate passed the time instead, he explained how the pair of them preferred a more lowkey lifestyle.
He said: “We’re actually quite keen on box sets.
“We like to watch box sets… we’ve watched Homeland, we’re big fans of Homeland.”
