Russia adds 9,221 COVID-19 infections


MOSCOW, March 25 (Xinhua) — Russia confirmed 9,221 coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the cumulative count to 4,492,692, the official monitoring and response center said Thursday.

The center said that 10,881 patients recovered from the virus over the previous day, taking the number of recoveries to 4,109,281.

The COVID-19 death toll stood at 96,612, with 393 new fatalities registered over the previous day.

COVID-19 cases in Moscow, the worst-hit region in Russia, increased by 1,787 to 1,017,309.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said Thursday that foreign virus strains have not been widespread in Russia, adding that domestic vaccines have proven to be effective against the mutated variants.

To date, more than 118.5 million coronavirus tests have been conducted across the country. Enditem
