Sarah Ferguson’s sweet role in her daughter Princess Beatrice’s wedding has been revealed following the secret ceremony.

Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor on Friday.

Only a handful of guests attended, including Fergie, her former husband Prince Andrew, as well as the Queen and Prince Phillip.

The service saw two of the bride and groom’s favourite poems read by the Duchess of York and Mr Mozzi’s mother.

The poems were Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116; I carry your heart with me by EE Cummings, and a biblical reading, St Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians.

It is thought that only 20 or so guests were allowed to attend Friday’s wedding, with Fergie’s other daughter Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank thought to have also attended.

Eugenie and Jack normally live in an apartment at Kensington Palace but recently now moved in with Fergie and her ex Prince Andrew at their home of the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Sarah admitted she was “sad” when Beatrice had to postpone her wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi had planned to wed on May 29 in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace but the ceremony was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Speaking on the City Island podcast, Fergie revealed Beatrice and Edoardo opted to stay with the groom’s mother instead with the Yorks.

She said: “Edo and Beatrice have been living with her future mother-in-law who is lovely…I’m missing my [other]daughter but it’s just like everybody else, we are just the same family as everybody else.”

After her daughter’s wedding, it was very much business as usual for the Duchess of York as she promoted her latest venture hours after the ceremony.

She posted on Instagram : “Today at 4pm on @storytimewithfergieandfriends I am going to be drawing Baby Elephants with @davidwilliampress and my guest friend is @mark.lisk #storytimewithfergieandfriends #childrensbooks #books #stories.”

It’s likely that Fergie had pre-recorded her post though, giving her chance to spend the weekend with her family after the celebrations.

As expected, fans of Sarah and her daughters were quick to comment on the post in their droves as they wished the bride and groom well.

One said: “Congratulations to your daughter Princess Beatrice and Edo. Soo lovely to hear some good news for a change. I hope you all have a beautiful day.”

Another added: “Many congratulations on the wedding of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo. Wonderful news. You must be very pleased.”

A third went on: “Congratulations to your family and especially Beatrice on her wedding to Edo. All that matters is the marriage not everything else and she has done it her way. Fantastic news.”

In a statement on the wedding, Buckingham Palace said: “The couple decided to hold a small private ceremony with their parents and siblings following the postponement of their wedding in May.

“Working within Government guidelines, the service was in keeping with the unique circumstances while enabling them to celebrate their wedding with their closest family.”

Mr Mapelli Mozzi, a millionaire property tycoon, and Beatrice began dating in autumn 2018, and were soon being tipped to walk up the aisle.

The princess, who split from her long-term love Dave Clark in 2016 after 10 years together, got engaged during a weekend trip to Italy following a whirlwind romance.

Their families have known one another for many years and the couple are said to have started a relationship after meeting again at Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie’s wedding.

The Queen described the private family occasion as “very nice”.

The ceremony is believed to be the first time the Queen and Philip have attended a family gathering since the lockdown
