A care home worker is celebrating and buying a new family home after winning a life-changing £300k top prize on a National Lottery scratchcard.

Kirsty Pippard, 29, treated both her and her husband to a scratchcard each to celebrate his birthday – and promptly won £300,000.

Kind hearted Kirsty, from Bridgwater, Somerset, said:“I honestly can’t believe how lucky we’ve been.

“We were a little bit short of money, so I intended on buying Robert a scratchcard for his birthday until I got paid again.

“I bought us both one and took it home. His scratchcard wasn’t a winner, but mine was”.

Kirsty is a Senior Healthcare Assistant at a care home for the elderly and has been working gruelling hours, in addition to her usual 12-hour shifts, throughout the current pandemic.

She is now looking forward to buying some well-earned treats for herself and the family.

This life-changing win couldn’t have been better timed as Kirsty recently heard that her rented two bedroom home – where she lives with her husband and their two children, aged 4 and 2 – will be sold.

Without the win, the young family would have likely had to move back in with one of their sets of parents.

Kirsty has since splashed out on a new four bedroom, detached property and hopes to be settled in within weeks.

She said: “Everything still seems strange and new but is, of course, very welcome after such a tough couple of months. We had been planning on moving in with my mum, so we could save for a deposit, so this win is brilliant.

“Our new house, which we hope to move into very soon, is a dream come true.

“I can’t wait to move into our new family home. It’s just what we wanted – a room for each of our children and a spare for my mum or mother-in-law to stay.

“It will be lovely to have a first home to call our own. We have the security of knowing that this is our home and no-one can take that away from us.”

The couple haven’t had time to celebrate their win yet due to Kirsty’s working hours, but have plenty of celebrations planned during some upcoming leave from work.

Kirsty added: “It really does feel like a blessing to have this win at the end of a really hard couple of months, in terms of work.

“It has been such an effort trying to keep our home life together while remaining strong at work throughout a 12 hour shift.

“People ask why I’m not thinking of going part-time or not going back to work, but I really love my job, even after these last few months.”

Kirsty won the top £300,000 prize on a Cash Lines scratchcard from The National Lottery bought at One Stop Shop, Bridgwater.
