Slovak PM resigns, swaps post with finance minister

BRATISLAVA, March 30 (Xinhua) — Slovak President Zuzana Caputova on Tuesday accepted Prime Minister Igor Matovic’s resignation.

Caputova entrusted Eduard Heger, 44, the current deputy prime minister and minister of finance, with the formation of a new government. Matovic is expected to remain a cabinet member by swapping posts with Heger.

According to Slovakia’s constitution, when the prime minister resigns, the whole government resigns. At least six cabinet members had already resigned from their posts.

Earlier on Tuesday, Matovic and Heger jointly attended a government session, where the resignation was formally announced.

Heger’s appointment has received approval from the coalition partners in the country’s four-party government, an official statement said. Enditem
