KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, July 28 (Xinhua) — Two people were killed and four others injured as a mortar mine fired by militants struck a sports ground in Dasht-e-Archi district of Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province on Monday, district governor Nasrudin Nazari Saadi said Tuesday.
A group of athletes were exercising on the sports ground in Qarlaq area of the restive Dasht-e-Archi district on Monday evening when the mortar mine landed on the ground killing two and wounding four others, the official added.
The authorities blamed the Taliban militants for the bloody attack, saying that the armed group is targeting athletes to terrorize sportsmen and ordinary people.
