BEIRUT, March 29 (Xinhua) — Caretaker Lebanese Social Affairs Minister Ramzi Musharrafieh said on Monday that 80 percent of the Lebanese have become among the most vulnerable groups in the past two years, according to a statement of his ministry.
Musharrafieh noted his ministry only accounts for two percent of the state’s budget for the year 2021.
“We have a very modest budget compared with the increasing demand day after day,” he said.
Lebanon has been facing the worst economic and financial crisis in its history. With the unemployment rate exceeding 40 percent according to the United Nations and the cost of living soaring by more than 140 percent, many citizens cannot afford even basic needs. Enditem
