After contracting the virus, an ‘incredible’ NHS doctor who fought to save lives on the Covid frontlines died.
During the peak of the pandemic, Dr. Irfan Halim worked in Covid-19 wards for four months away from his family.
His bereft wife claims he contracted the virus at work and died after a nine-week battle.
After succumbing to Covid-19 himself, an NHS doctor who spent the previous two years saving the lives of Covid-19 patients has left his family heartbroken.
Dr. Irfan Halim, 45, a consultant general surgeon with 25 years of NHS experience, became ill on September 10 at the hospital where he worked in Swindon.
The father-of-four fought for his life in intensive care in Swindon until September 23rd, when he was transferred to the Royal Brompton Hospital in London for further treatment.
On Sunday, November 14th, he died in his wife’s arms, leaving his family, friends, and colleagues devastated.
Close friends and family have started a GoFundMe fundraiser for Dr. Halim’s wife and children to help them cope with the loss of their breadwinner.
Dr. Halim is described as “a wonderful talented and incredible NHS Doctor who worked hard to help others” by the fundraiser.
“Irfan was dearly loved and touched the lives of so many people,” the statement continued.
He was tragically taken from those who loved him far too soon.
“He was an incredibly awesome human being to all who were blessed to have met him. He was not only a loving husband, a devoted father of four young beautiful children, but he was also an incredibly awesome human being to all who were blessed to have met him.
“At the height of the pandemic, he worked in the Covid wards for four months, away from his family.”
“Irfan and the NHS worked tirelessly to return him to his loving family, but he tragically died after a nine-week battle with Covid.”
Saila Halim, his wife, said her heart was “shattered in pieces beyond imagination” as she paid tribute to her husband, who she said died peacefully “while I held him in my arms whispering prayers and love into his ears, along with his family.”
Her husband was first taken ill while doing a ward round in his scrubs when he collapsed at his workplace, she wrote in her message on the fundraiser.
“Irfan, you gave me 15 magical years as your wife, four beautiful children, and wonderful memories that will last until the end of my days on this planet,” she said.
“As a consultant general surgeon, you dedicated 25 years of service to the NHS.
“Irfan, you were not only my best friend, but you were a best friend to all of our children and many others as well.
“Rest in peace,” we wish you.
More than 3,000 people have donated to the fundraising page set up in Dr. Halim’s memory, bringing the total raised to £137,000 so far.
It was written by someone.
“This doctor is one of many unsung heroes who work for the NHS, and my thoughts are with his lovely family.”
“I hope Dr. Irfan’s contribution to caring for people who are sick with Covid is never forgotten, and his personal sacrifice is remembered forever,” said another.
“Devastating loss,” wrote one friend who contributed.
Irfan was texting excitedly the day before he collapsed about a surprise birthday party he was ‘plotting’ for his wife, Saila.
This guy was a genius, and I was certain he’d pull it off.”
