ROME, July 29 (Xinhua) — American setter Micah Christenson has been named as the captain of Modena, the Italian volleyball Super Lega side confirmed.
The 27-year-old joined Modena in 2018, helping the team win the 2018 Italian Super Cup. The bronze medalist of the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games was deemed as a key part of the club’s pursuit of a first Super Lega title since 2016.
“Above all I am honored and proud to take on such an important role as captain,” he told the FIVB.
“We’re not here to make promises, you don’t get the results you want that way. I am happy to be here at this important club and have the trust of the club and staff,” he added.
Christenson has renewed his contract in February with a three-year extension, and he said he never thought about leaving Modena despite the departures of some star players.
“This new team excites me just as much as the ones before. There may be stronger teams on paper, but I think we will be able to be competitive. We are really pumped up and can see an incredibly competitive Modena team,” he said. Enditem
