ULAN BATOR, June 15 (Xinhua) — A 19-month-old baby girl died after falling into a pit latrine, a traditional wooden toilet, in western Mongolia, local media reported on Monday, citing police.
The accident occurred in Jargalant soum of Khovd province on Saturday night.
Pit latrines, usually two to five meters in Mongolia, are a type of toilet that collects human feces in a hole in the ground, and are used by the majority of Mongolia’s population but reportedly have a negative impact on soil and public health.
There are several such toilet-related injuries and deaths in the country every year.
According to statistics, at least four people, including three children aged one to six, have died in such toilet-related accidents last year. Enditem
