Boxing news: Frank Warren lifts lid on Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder rematch

TYSON FURY and Deontay Wilder have not yet agreed terms for a rematch despite the latter announcing the pair will rematch in two fights’ time.

That is according to Fury’s promoter Frank Warren.

Fury faces unbeaten German Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas on Saturday in the first bout of his five-fight, £80million ESPN and Top Rank deal.

The focus around the match-up has been intensified following Anthony Joshua’s shock defeat to Andy Ruiz two weekends ago in New York.

Another British loss on Saturday would send similar shockwaves through the heavyweight division, but if all goes to plan then Fury is lining up a rematch with Wilder soon.

Wilder, the WBC heavyweight world champion, unofficially announced two weeks ago that he would be facing Fury, against whom he fortunately claimed a draw last December, should he come through Luiz Ortiz in September.

But Warren has shed light on the ongoing talks, telling Boxing Social: “We want the fight to happen but no terms have been agreed with Tyson.

“He wants the fight, of course he wants the fight. We want it to happen.

“But the terms have got to be discussed with Tyson. He doesn’t want to that, and nor should he, before the fight takes place on Saturday.

“Once that’s out the way we can get down to the nitty-gritty.”

The pair were ordered to rematch by the WBC earlier this year but that was postponed by Fury, who instead signed the lucrative ESPN deal.

Warren did confirm that both parties want the bout, though, and gave an indication as to when it could happen.

“We all want the fight to happen – we made no secret of that,” he added.

“We wanted to make it earlier but this deal came up with ESPN, which is a great deal for that helps with his exposure and his brand in the States, giving him a big platform to work on.

“Also, Deontay has got a fight lined up: he’s fighting Ortiz. Hopefully we get it on in the first quarter of next year.”
