Brazil forward Luan completes Corinthians move

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) — Luan Vieira vowed to bring happiness to Corinthians fans after completing his “dream” move to the Brazilian giants from their Serie A rivals Gremio on Saturday.

Corinthians agreed to pay 5.5 million US dollars for 50% of Luan’s economic rights in a deal that ties the 26-year-old Brazil international to the Sao Paulo club for the next four years.

“I’m very happy. It’s the realization of a childhood dream to be able to wear this shirt,” Luan said in comments published on Corinthians’ official website. “I hope to repay the fans for all the support they’ve shown on the streets and on social media. I come with great expectations and a desire to make Corinthians fans happy.”

Luan scored 77 goals in 299 matches across all competitions for Gremio, whom he joined from Catanduvense in 2014.

He helped the Porto Alegre club win the 2017 Copa Libertadores, for which he was named player of the tournament with eight goals in 12 appearances.

A member of the Brazil squad that won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics, Luan has been capped twice for Brazil’s senior national team.

Gremio also issued a statement on Saturday night, thanking Luan for his contribution to the club’s recent success.

“Luan, thank you for all of the goals, assists, titles … We wish you strength in the next stage of your career.”
