BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) — Chinese international Jiang Chuan is excited to play again after waiting for half a year for the restart of the Chinese Men’s Volleyball League.
“I am excited that we can play again,” said Jiang, who will play for Beijing in the 14-team league. “As a professional player, the last time that I stopped playing for half a year was when I injured my leg.”
“The most important thing is that we can compete again. We will follow the anti-virus instructions strictly so that the league matches can be held smoothly,” he added.
The 2019-2020 Chinese Men’s Volleyball League season will restart on August 20 in the city of Qinhuangdao, Hebei province, with a total of 14 teams to compete behind closed doors in a championship format.
Shanghai coach Shen Qiong was also eager to lead the defending champions to resume their pursuit of a record 16th league title.
“Today is my happiest day in the last six months,” said Shen on Wednesday after the Chinese Volleyball Association announced the news. “The players have been training very hard, and they are really excited to play.”
Only the first round matches of the season had been played on January 19 before the league was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Enditem
