ZHUJI, China, March 28 (Xinhua) — The Liaoning Flying Leopards came back in the second half to beat the Beijing Royal Fighters 91-85 in the 2020-21 regular season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Sunday.
“In the first half, we limited our mistakes. We executed on both ends of the court. In the second half we got tired,” said Beijing head coach Stephon Marbury.
Beijing led 45-40 at the break before Liaoning took an 8-0 run in the third quarter to tie the game at 66 to enter the fourth quarter. With a 13-2 run to start the fourth period, Liaoning established an 11-point advantage. Beijing answered with a 9-0 run to narrow the deficit to two points before Liaoning surged on a 9-2 run the put the game beyond reach.
Joseph Young had a game-high 33 points for Beijing and Wang Shaojie was the only other Beijing player who scored in double digits with 10 points.
“We play against a good team today. They know how to play with each other. We got to learn from this team. Our guys played with full hearts,” Marbury added.
O.J. Mayo led Liaoning with 24 points and 9 rebounds, followed by 23 from Han Dejun, who also contributed 16 rebounds. Zhang Zhenlin had 22 points and Zhao Jiwei added 13.
