Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Portugal top 50,000


LISBON, July 26 (Xinhua) — Portugal on Sunday reported 209 new COVID-19 infections, raising the tally to 50,164 cases, according to the Portuguese Director-General of Health.

One person died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,717 in the country.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, where there have been several active outbreaks, had 155 infections in the last 24 hours, representing 74 percent of the national total. The region has so far registered a total of 25,448 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Nationwide, 207 people recovered in the last 24-hour period, bringing the total to 35,217. Meanwhile, the number of people hospitalized decreased by seven to 403, and that in intensive care went down by two to 48. Enditem
