Eight staff and patients at a hospital have tested positive for coronavirus following an outbreak on a ward.
The new cases involving six patients and two workers at Blackpool Victoria Hospital were reported earlier this week to management.
The outbreak is believed to have started on a Covid-free ward, where patients are kept who have tested negative for the disease and have no symptoms, LancsLive reports.
After being admitted, a patient was tested for a second time and gave a positive result.
Subsequently five more patients were tested and they also gave positive results, along with two members of staff.

There have also been a number of patients and staff who have become infected at Clifton Hospital, a rehabilitation service for patients from Blackpool Victoria, but this figure is said to be small.
Hospital bosses have moved to reassure locals that the outbreaks were limited, and that the hospital is safe to visit for all other ailments.
A spokesperson for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust, said: “A small number of patients and staff have tested positive for COVID-19 at both Blackpool Victoria Hospital and Clifton Hospital over the past few days.
“These very small outbreaks are not completely unexpected as the virus is still circulating in the community.
“The trust has a robust surveillance system which helps identify all new or suspected cases as quickly as possible and appropriate actions are immediately implemented to limit the spread of the virus.
“The Infection Prevention team report all outbreaks to the Care Quality Commission and NHS England and national Public Health England guidance is followed by trust staff.
“The total number of patients with COVID-19 in the trust today stands at 9 including 0 in critical care and 2 at Clifton Hospital.”
The spokesperson told LancsLive that the number of coronavirus patients has decreased overnight and no new deaths had been recorded at the hospital for more than a week, until Friday, when one was reported.
This brings the total of coronavirus cases in the region to 238.
