Yesterday Chris emerged from the Court House Retirement Home in Cheddar, Somerset and was seen hugging his wife Alison and daughter, Edith.

He said: “We’ve all been looking forward to this for so long.”

Alison added: “It’s so lovely.

“It’s unbelievable – it’s such a long time.”

It comes as Boris Johnson said many care homes did not follow the Covid-19 procedures during the pandemic.

During a visit to Goole in Yorkshire, the PM said: “Too many care homes didn’t really follow the procedures in the way that they could have.”

Chris said: “It’s very disappointing, we made a lot of hard decisions and locked ourselves into the care home and stopped visitors coming in and seeing their relatives for 12 weeks.

“He had made us feel like it’s our fault, that this happened.”
