DALIAN, China, July 24 (Xinhua) — Guangzhou Evergrande head coach Fabio Cannavaro said on Friday that he will give young players more chances this season regardless of the risk of undermining his side’s performance or his own interests.
Cannavaro’s side will face FA Cup champions Shanghai Shenhua in the season opener of the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Saturday, and the Italian revealed at the pre-match press conference that he is under pressure from above to field young players.
“Our boss’s aim is very clear, that is to cultivate young players for Chinese football. The team’s performance could therefore suffer, or I have to pay the price myself,” he said.
“I will give my young players as many chances as possible, it serves us better to have them involved,” he said.
Cannavaro’s team and other seven sides are housed at a single hotel inside a sealed-off area where they will be confined until September 28 when the first phase of the season ends.
The Italian raised concerns about the limited rehabilitation facilities at the hotel.
“What I fear most is injuries as we can do little about the rehabilitation equipment,” he said. Enditem
